Losing One of the Twins: One afternoon in 1990 Linda Dattilo's six-year-old twins, Allison and Nicole, were playing with neighbors in their backyard in Ocean City, N.J., when Linda heard "a horrific boom. I ran out, and Allison was a fountain of blood. Half of her head was gone." A playmate had accidentally shot the girl with a .357 magnum that had been ditched by a fugitive under the Dattilo's porch the night before. Police determined that the gun had been stolen 17 years earlier.
