A Family in Crisis
There are no time-outs in parenting. So what happens when pushed-to-the-limit parents take out their anger and rage on the people they love best in the world? All too often, the results are unthinkable: Mothers and fathers lash out at their kids, wounding them physically and emotionally. In an attempt to stop this brutal cycle, the National Respite Coalition has established centers nationwide where parents can drop off their kids, take a few deep breaths, and find the calm they need. Photographer Steve Wewerka captures the pain and, eventually, the relief of the Inamagua family, whose local crisis center, in Minneapolis, has saved the day for countless families.

The Photographer
For the past decade Steve Wewerka's photographs have appeared in many national and international magazines. In 1996 his photo essay about conjoined twins Abby and Britty Hensel was featured on the cover of Life magazine. He currently lives in St. Paul, Minn.
