The Refugees: Iraqi Kurdistan, 1997; Many villages in the region of Brazan were destroyed by Saddam Hussein's troops, forcing the population to move to villages like Beharke, near the city of Erbil. On the night of July 31, 1983, Iraqi soldiers arrived unexpectedly and took away all the men in every family. They were never seen again; probably all were killed.
