Rio MP3 Player The Rioport RIO PMP300 SE.

Beam Me Down

Propelled by dreams of a Walkman-like explosion, companies are climbing over each other to rush portable MP3 players to market. Creative Labs is one of the bigger, more established firms coming onto the scene, with RCA/Thomson and Samsung soon to join the fray. The big news is still to come: the introduction of players boasting IBM's new 340-MB microdrives. The first of these miniature monsters, from Rioport, is promised for this Christmas. In the meantime, we've rounded up some of the leading players to see which is the best and what the others offer. Buyer beware: none of them work with Windows NT, and only one player here works with the Mac.
