Eiger labs/Saehan: mpman MP F-20

Price: $159.
Additional 16-MB flash card: $49
Additional 32-MB card: $99. Grade: B-
Bottom line: Relatively inexpensive but lacks features.

The mpman, which was the very first player on the market, is about the size of a deck of cards and attempts a luxurious look by using a brushed-plastic exterior. In truth, all the players except the Nomad have a cheap knockoff kind of feel. The mpman comes with a lean 32 MB of storage; the expansion slot for a flash card could push up the total capacity to 64 megs–about an hour of music.

Aside from data storage, there aren't any other features of note on this basic model. Even the consideration of a clip for the athletically inclined is missing. (All the players above have a clip. Only this one and the Pontis model below assume, apparently, that MP3 and muscle building present a compatibility issue.) The mpman performs adequately, but that's about all you can say.
