Subject: Where Does Dean Go Now?

Howard Dean seemed confident throughout this week, but this loss leaves him in serious danger. He had pulled all his resources from Feb. 3 states this week to focus them all on New Hampshire in hopes of a win like Kerry had in Iowa that could create momentum going into next week. Instead, the former Governor lost badly in a neighboring state where he once had a big lead. And in the seven primaries on Feb. 3, none of the states are particularly strong for Dean, especially with Kerry having won the first two primaries. Dean aides have said they are strongest in New Mexico and Arizona, but Dean will go first to Michigan, which has its primary on Feb. 7. Both the Service Employees International Union and the The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, the two huge labor unions that endorsed Dean in November, are strong in that state and Dean also hopes to do well on Feb. 7 in Washington, where he has had more organizers than other campaigns for months.

Dean campaign aides tried to spin their loss as a partial comeback, saying they had been down as much as 20 early in the week but cut it to 12. But losing is losing, and so far the Dean campaign has the most endorsements, magazine covers and money, but zero primary wins.
