Theatre du Chatelet
The Bordeaux Opera Ballet presents an updated version of Coppélia (June 15-19) the story of a mad scientist trying to bring a mechanical doll to life by transposing it to small-town America circa 1950 and naming the young hero Fonzy. Then Germany's Tanztheater Wuppertal contemporary dance company performs to folk music from Italy, Bolivia, New Orleans and music from the 1930s (June 27-30). Paris.

Holland Festival
Amsterdam goes avant-garde through the month of June with acts from all over the world. This year's highlight comes from America, with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company presenting biped (June 26-27), which features dancers partnered with their digitalized alter egos, and Interscape (June 29-30), choreographed to the music of John Cage performed by the Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra. Rambert Dance Company
Britain's oldest dance ensemble celebrates its 75th anniversary with a two-week program (June 12-23) that includes newly commissioned works by Richard Alston and acclaimed young choreographer Wayne McGregor. Arthur
With the help of choreographer David Bintley, the Birmingham Royal Ballet dances through the legendary tale of Good versus Evil. The first part of this two-act dramatization of the story of King Arthur can be seen at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth, England. (June 6-9). Dates for Act II are yet to be announced.

Festival de Marseille
Kafka's Metamorphosis set to flamenco and a hip-hop version of Carmen are just two examples of the eclectic offerings at this year's festival (June 28-July 25). Spoleto Festival
Founder Gian Carlo Menotti turns 90 this year and in his honor the Roman Theater plays host to a global array of dancers and dance troupes, including the Paul Taylor Dance Company from New York, the Royal Danish Ballet (performing to works by Bach, Mahler and Stravinsky) and India's Madhu Gopinath. Festival Internacional de Musica y Danza
As part of the festival's 50th anniversary celebration, the world-renowned Kirov Ballet from St. Petersburg, Russia comes to Granada with performances of Chopiniana, Le Spectre de la Rose and Rubies (July 5 and 7 returns only). International Dance Festival of Berlin
Eight of the 17 productions at Berlin's "Dance in August" festival (Aug. 10-Sept. 2) are world premieres, such as Michael Laub's Total Masala Slammer and Felix Ruckert's 3 Choreografen three x two. San Francisco Ballet
The ballet comes to the Royal Opera House in London's Covent Garden (Aug. 13-18) bringing with it two productions by celebrated choreographer Mark Morris: Sandpaper Ballet and his new A Garden. New York City Ballet
This year, the N.Y.C.B. celebrates the future at the Edinburgh International Festival (Aug. 12-Sept. 1) with a showcase of new works by choreographers such as William Forsythe, Angelin Preljocaj and Christopher Wheeldon. This is the first time so many of these performances will be seen together outside New York. After Edinburgh the N.Y.C.B. will go to Parma to perform works set to Verdi's music for the Teatro Regio di Parma centennial festival. Edinburgh, Scotland.
