20. Juan Roure
IESE

Job description: Professor of entrepreneurship
Age, Nationality: 48, Spanish
Web address: www.iese.edu

Molding European entrepreneurs is Roure's lifework. Every year about a thousand students pass through the graduate and executive classes he teaches on entrepreneurship at Spain's iese and France's insead. But his work doesn't stop in the classroom. He has helped raise capital and recruit talent for start-ups created by several former students, including Ramon Pijoan, founder of Telepix, a site that allows business users to compare fixed phone line prices. And Roure is influencing the direction of hundreds of start-up companies through Europe Unlimited's Venture Academy and Venture Forum conferences, which are held regularly around Europe. Roure is also on the boards of the European Foundation for Entrepreneurial Research and Growth Plus, a pan-European association of high-growth companies. Both are groups that influence policymakers on key issues like encouraging the use of stock options.

The vision thing: "If governments lowered barriers to entrepreneurship it would unleash the potential that exists in European society."

Forward spin: Roure will encourage more students to create their own companies.
