Website aims to let net do the walking
American tourists aren't exactly famous for their discrimination in choosing European destinations: the Louvre, Hard Rock Cafe and McDonald's probably top most lists.
But with more than 9 million Americans expected to visit Europe this year, the European Travel Commission is making an effort to promote some off-the-beaten-path places (Burger King doesn't count) that merit a visit.
Go Europe, a Website (www.goeurope.com) with more than 250 pages' worth of travel information, offers free brochures for the price of an E-mail. It also has a searchable calendar of events that includes even the most obscure listings--like Cyprus' Theophanidia International Archery Tournament.
A Travelers' Forum lets potential visitors swap information about favorite hotels, restaurants and driving routes.
