TIME Europe's Digital 25, December 11, 2000
15 Alex Vieux
Founder and CEO, DASAR

Age: 43
Nationality: French
www.dasar.com

When members of Europe's tech set decide to launch a new project, many check with Vieux first. Since his connections extend throughout the U.S., Europe, Israel and Asia, he is one of the world's most powerful matchmakers for technology entrepreneurs.

What accounts for Vieux's high-level access? He knew all the U.S. tech titans before they were famous. Vieux landed in Silicon Valley in 1985 and helped pay his way through Stanford by covering technology for the French newspaper Le Monde.

Realizing that people in the Valley had few international connections, he formed DASAR to bring together tech CEOs from all over the world.

Its annual invitation-only European Technology Roundtable Exhibition (ETRE) is now one of the hottest events in the industry.

The vision thing:
"DASAR will have made its mark when the most modest entrepreneurs in the most remote country will have had access to and built a business in partnership with the tech elite."

Forward spin:
In addition to organizing etre and 20 other tech-related conferences, DASAR is now also helping to incubate new companies.
