ARCHITECTURE
Luxor Theatre, Rotterdam
Julia Bolles and Peter Wilson's red spiral performing arts hall will be a dazzling addition to Europe's other Capital of Culture. A wraparound ramp leads to a rooftop terrace and foyer, with a 360° view that takes in the city's redeveloped harbor front. Audiences make a dramatic entrance down past the stage into the surprisingly intimate cherrywood-paneled auditorium. Hovering above are crumpled fiber-glass reflecting "clouds" that will modify the acoustics to the precise requirements of an opera singer or an electronically boosted musical chorus. See and be seen.
