ARCHITECTURE
Expo Station
If architecture is art you walk through, the 17,000-plus commuters who transit this MRT railway station during peak periods are in for a quick fix of culture. But British architect Norman Foster¹s dramatic roof structures‹a 38-m stainless steel disc that covers the ticket hall and a 200-m titanium-clad ceiling sheltering the platforms and concourse‹are not only striking to the eye but also functional. They serve to fend off the fierce sun, leaving the temperature inside three or four degrees lower than outside. Cool.
