Milwaukee Art Museum
A midwestern U.S. city should get instant cultural clout with the completion of an extension to its existing art museum. Designed by Spanish architect, engineer and sculptor Santiago Calatrava in his first completed U.S. commission, the new wing resembles a ship with unfurled sails nosing into Lake Michigan, a plant unfolding its leaves or the bleached skeleton of a giant bird depending on the angle you see or the mood you're in.
