The Euro Gets a Boost as the Third Way Survives
Tony Blair's government exudes a strange mix of arrogance and terror that each day may be its last. Relax: after pledging more money for hospitals and schools, New Labour will keep a hundred-seat majority in elections in May. William Hague has scored some points over declining police numbers, stealth taxes and the specter of a European superstate, but he hasn't convinced voters he's fit for Downing Street. After the Conservatives lose, Hague will be out of a job. If Blair wins big, expect a quick post-election referendum on joining the euro particularly as a U.S. slump makes the eurozone shine brighter.
