THE NEW NEW THINGS
Broadband
Internet-enabled phones won't offer broadband speed this year or for years to come. In much of Europe, Asia and the U.S. the speeds at which consumers link their computers to the Internet will also remain slower than projected. Blame the lethargy on network capacity problems, technology glitches, consumers balking at the price tag for high-speed connections and reticence from carriers worried about cannibalizing existing services.
