Feeling the Heat
A harsh climate compounds the misery in southern Africa
Workers load sacks of corn grown in the U.S. and donated as part of the U.N. World Food Program's aid effort at a slipway used by Zambia-based NGO Harvest Help. With roads in short supply across Africa and many isolated communities many days walk from the nearest large town, boats are simply the quickest way to get food aid to outlying areas along Lake Kariba's nothern shore.
