Feeling the Heat
A harsh climate compounds the misery in southern Africa
These grain silos in the commercial farming area around the town of Chinhoyi, owned by the Zimbabwean Government's Grain Marketing Board (GMB), should be groaning under the weight of a bountiful harvest. Zimbabwe previously one of the most productive countries in Africa is in the throes of a much-criticised land reform program championed by the country's leader Robert Mugabe. Now, after many months of drought, these silos and others across the region are empty.
