A series of pictures reveal the damage done by decades of civil war
Diamonds in Catoca-mine, Lunda Sul:
The Catoca mine, in Lunda Sul province, is the world's fourth largest opencast diamond mine. It took just two years to turn a profit on the initial investment in 1999 the Catoca-mine made a net profit of $38 million. The company expects to dig out 135 million carats before the mine is exhausted. But dwarfing Angola's diamond wealth is its oil industry which is 10 times more profitable. Angola also provides seven percent of the U.S.'s oil needs.
