A series of pictures reveal the damage done by decades of civil war
Joaquim, Kuito:
Hunger strikes a long time before malnutrition sets in. But by the time the skin loses its elasticity and the eyes sink into the skull, death cannot be far away. After a while the skin simply falls of the body leaving severe flesh wounds. Joaquim Katengo was five years of age when this picture was taken. In June it was uncertain if she would survive.
