| Monday, Mar. 18, 2002: An Italian Carabinieri police officer looks at a rusty freighter carrying around 1,000 would-be immigrants in the Sicilian port of Catania. Hundreds of women and children, mainly ethic Kurds, were aboard the 75-meter cargo vessel Monica, which is believed to have set sail in Lebanon.
