SEATTLE, DAVOS, PRAGUE, QUEBEC over the past year, the critics of global capitalism have staged increasingly strident protests at meetings of major international organizations like the World Bank and the IMF. Few have been as threatening as the 2000 May Day demonstrations in London, where last year protesters ran amok, defacing statues and trashing shops.
