Goma Vs The Volcano
The citizens of an African community come to terms with deadly lava flows in a region used to turmoil and tragedy

January 20, 2002 Red Cross workers carry children to Goma hospital across the cooling lava field using a narrow path dubbed Pont Joel. At first, the river of molten rock from the eruption of Mount Nyiragongo was flowing fast enough to engulf people fleeing before it, say aid workers. There were reports of people falling through the hardened crust into the searing lava below. As the eruption ends efforts are now being made to construct a road across the lava field to help in the distribution of emergency aid.
