Atocha Station: The 19th century station has been improved and updated for the 21st century and the the Spanish high-speed AVE trains to Portugal. Also known as Estacion del Mediodia, the exterior structure, built in 1889-91, was designed by Alberto de Palacio Elissagne with assistance from Gustave Eiffel.
