God asks Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac. Abraham prepares to obey and builds an altar. As Abraham is about to slay Isaac, God stops him, saying "Do not lay your hand on the lad or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, seeing that you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me."
