Some might say I am not broad-minded enough, that my horizon is too limited. But how can I help it when Hong Kong has so much to offer, when its people are so quick to recognize and appreciate others' hard work and success? You get instant reaction for whatever you do. Every time I launch a new work, whether it's a song or a movie, the responses are almost immediate. For an artist, this is an important driving force. It is very reassuring to learn that what you do makes a difference, that people care and are not hesitant to share with you their approval or disapproval. Time and time again I have been pushed to meet new challenges by people's encouragement and their relentless expectations.

In Hong Kong there is a group of people--filmmakers, musicians, songwriters, record producers, managers and staff--whom I have worked with and relied on for many years. They are good partners. I see in them an undying spirit and a respect for hard work that is characteristic of Hong Kong people. Everywhere you go in Hong Kong you can see the determination of people to make their lives better and make Hong Kong a better place to live. They are an invaluable source of inspiration. At this turning point in history, I hope all Hong Kong artists will be encouraged to follow their convictions and persevere with their endeavors. It is time Chinese people earned the recognition they deserve.
