SHOULD OLDER PEOPLE BE CAREFUL NOT TO LIFT TOO MUCH WEIGHT? Not progressing to heavier weights is the most common reason older adults don't realize the full benefits of strength training. You may start out by lifting only a pound or two with your hands or legs, but as you get stronger, you need to lift more.
CAN STRENGTH TRAINING REPLACE AEROBIC EXERCISE? No. It is an important component of a complete exercise program, along with aerobics and flexibility. We recommend that individuals who are sedentary and deconditioned start with strength training and then, once they are strong, start doing aerobic exercise, such as walking.
