Sweet Time For The Mango
Cultivated in Asia for more than 4,000 years, the mango is one of the most popular fruits in the world, and Americans are finally catching on. Last year 361 million lbs. were imported from Mexico, up from 306 million five years ago. Chefs are using the sweet fruits in salads and salsas, as well as contrasting them with chilies in savory dishes. Mangoes are in peak season from May to September. --By Lisa McLaughlin
