"Many of our guests say they're not 'gym people,'" says Amy Heilgeist of Westin Hotels. "They like to exercise in the privacy of their home." To give guests that home away from home feeling, Westin is teaming up with Reebok to offer fitness-friendly guest rooms. Within the next few months, the chain plans to kit out two guest rooms at each of its 121 hotels worldwide.
Reebok has helped design both the workout regimen and an in-room yoga video. One room will feature a stationary bike, another a treadmill, and both will offer fitness equipment, including exercise mats and balls all for around $20 more than the standard rate. Westin will offer yoga and Pilates–inspired training DVDs in the fitness rooms too, and features two-minute yoga stretch instructions on its own TV channel in every room. Full-service Marriott hotels in North America offer three in-room exercise equipment options free of charge, including the BodyRev, a compact, portable free-weight system that provides a full workout, and the BodyWedge21, a large foam wedge that allows you to perform 21 full-body exercises on an incline. www.westin.com; www.marriott.com
