Education: Oxford's Amazing Adolescent
(2 of 2)
After an additional year at Oxford, Lawrence will receive her master's. She has already begun planning for a Ph.D., targeted for completion when she is a doddering 16, and she may become Britain's youngest professor ever, surpassing one Colin MacLaurin, who in 1717 joined the faculty of Marischal College in Aberdeen at age 19. Beyond that, Lawrence may be taking aim at a challenge set by Lunn not long after the girl's arrival at St. Hugh's. "You are not a genius," her tutor informed her, "until you have left a personal mark on your subject." --By Ezra Bowen. Reported by James Shepherd/London
