Add another stunner to Sir Richard Branson's growing portfolio of former hideaways turned luxury hotels. The latest is the Kasbah Tamadot (
virgin.com/kasbah), an 18-room property 50 minutes south of Marrakech, in the foothills of Morocco's High Atlas mountains. Branson, who bought it in 1998, spent years renovating the building. Today, its Moorish doors open onto mosaic-covered courtyards, azure reflecting pools, and terraced gardens, which cascade down to an infinity pool that's ringed by rosebushes, fruit trees and cactus plants.
Rooms and suites are multistoried affairs stocked with antiques, and all feature spacious balconies with sweeping mountain views. An indoor pool, a spa, a rooftop restaurant (serving French-African cuisine), and a traditional bathhouse provide further opportunities for self-indulgence. If you insist on being more active, there are two tennis courts and a gym. Riding and hiking at nearby Mount Toubkal are also available. If that doesn't leave you on a holiday high, you can even make a nod to Branson's onetime obsession with circumnavigating the globe—by trying a spot of hot-air ballooning.
