Health: Early Puberty and Excess Weight
Overweight girls are likelier than slimmer ones to start menstruating before age 12. They're also eight times as likely to become overweight adults. The early periods have often been blamed for the weight struggles, but a new study in Pediatrics reverses that. It's being overweight, the journal says, that appears to kick-start puberty.
