A La Cart

Even if we land at a destination giddy with excitement at the attractions in store, most of us hate to look like tourists. So just who will take up the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, tel: (60-3) 2380 8888, on its latest service is a mystery. The luxury hotel is loaning swanky shopping carts — stocked with mineral water and cold towels — to guests on expeditions to nearby stores.

There's just one snag. The carts are adorned with the hotel's logo and the Mandarin Oriental group's signature gold fan — a dead giveaway that you are a) cashed-up and b) from out of town. If you don't want every shopkeeper in KL rubbing hands with avaricious glee at your approach, we suggest you cover up these emblems, or better still, ditch the cart and carry a cheap tote like everyone else.
