RETURNED Private Jacob Kovco
The body of Private Jacob Kovco, 25, the first Australian soldier to die in Iraq; to Australia. Kovco, a sniper, was reportedly shot in the head while in his room in Baghdad.
After Defence Minister Brendan Nelson contradicted an early report that he had shot himself accidentally while cleaning his semiautomatic pistol, Kovco's mother and other family members accused the military of a cover-up. Inquiries will be held into how he died and how the wrong body was initially flown to Australia.
