Livelyhood, PBS, June 30, 9 p.m. E.T.
Doughnut makers and New York City have lost their monopolies. The thrumming economy needs security guards, operators and computer programmers around the clock; in some ways, every city is now the city that never sleeps. The latest quarterly installment of this work-documentary series takes us inside nocturnal work sites from a dairy farm to the cavernous belly of an online grocery store's warehouse. This balanced, smart hour treats work neither as a prison nor a paradise. And thanks to crisp editing and comedian-host Will Durst's common-man touch, it isn't a chore to watch.
