No Way. Me Too!
Punch-Out Time
Invitees to Beverly Hills, 90210 alumna TORI SPELLING's August wedding to actor CHARLIE SHANIAN had better move fast. There's only one $2,800 menorah on the pair's Tiffany registry, found by Gawker.com. The couple also asks for a $595 alarm clock and some modest domestic items from Williams-Sonoma. We assume the $10 meat tenderizer will get snapped up by Shanian's clan, not by father of the bride, producer Aaron Spelling. He's already given the groom roles on two TV shows.
What do leftist linguist NOAM CHOMSKY and Left Coast lovely DREW BARRYMORE have in common? (Hint: it's not tattoos.) Both cultural notables took home a prize from the United Nations last week. After receiving an award from the U.N.'s Society of Writers and Artists, Chomsky spoke on U.S. imperialism and Iraq. When Barrymore was named the first "Friend of the U.N." by Artists for the U.N. (yes, two artists' groups this is the U.N.), she said, "To be philanthropic is weirdly not as easy as you want it to be." Unlike, say, fighting bad guys while in high heels.
Winners never quit. At least not in boxing, where they wait until a new champ knocks them right out of the ring. But last week LENNOX LEWIS became the first active heavyweight champion to retire since Rocky Marciano did so in 1956. "I was thinking about it for a long time," said Lewis, who lost just two of 44 fights in a 14-year career. (One highlight: knocking out Mike Tyson in 2002.) "Should I go back in and have one more fight? But I realized this is the drug of the sport: there is always one more fight." The London-born pugilist says he'll hang up his gloves for a job at a sports management agency. And if that doesn't work out, perhaps George Foreman could use someone lean and mean to help hawk grills.
