The Euro 2004 tournament will be played in eight great Portuguese cities. Here's a guide to some of their delights:

When Lisbon hosted the World Exposition in 1998, its Oceanarium was the star attraction. And no wonder: designed by American architect Peter Chermayeff and built at a cost of $85 million, it is the largest aquarium in the Western world.

Style Watch: Rattan Revolution
Diversions: All Talk
Food: Season to Taste
Outdoors: Comfy Camping

Some 8.5 million people have visited the Oceanarium since its 1998 debut, more than 15 times the population of Lisbon itself. Its gargantuan main tank holds 5 million liters of water, and the entire complex houses 16,000 creatures representing 450 species—including every known type of shark. They swim together and somehow manage not to eat their neighbors. You need not restrain yourself when visiting the Oceanarium's excellent Agua e Sal (Water and Salt) restaurant, however. The grilled salmon is particularly good.
