The most-sought-after seat on the Algarve is at Restaurant Gigi, on the beach near the posh Quinta da Marinha hotel-and-golf complex in Almancil—just 20 kilometers west of Faro on the N 125. The restaurant sits on a sand dune. Owner Bernardo Gigi, 54, gets the best daily catch directly from local fishermen. Not surprisingly, the background music is Pavarotti and Michael, along with Brazilian and Cuban rhythms.
