U.S. swimming phenom MICHAEL PHELPS last week destroyed his own world record in the 400 individual medley at the U.S. Olympic team trials for swimming in Long Beach, Calif., thus launching his assault on Mark Spitz's record of seven gold medals in a single Olympics, set in 1972.
