Medicine: Gold-Headed Cane
The American Association of Pathologists and Bacteriologists conferred the custody of its honorary gold-headed cane upon Dr. William H. Welch, distinguished head of the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. The cane was established in 1919 and first presented to Dr. Harold C. Ernst, of Harvard, who died last year. It is held throughout the lifetime of the recipient.
