SWEDEN: Crown Prince Engaged
Gustaf Adolf, elder son of King Gustavus V, is engaged to be married to Lady Louise Alexandria Marie Irene Mountbatten, youngest daughter of the late Admiral of the Fleet, the Marquis of Milfordhaven (formerly Prince Louis of Battenburg), sister of the present Marquis and first cousin of King George. She was born July 13, 1880.
The Crown Prince was born on November 11, 1882, and was married on June 15, 1905, to Princess Margaret Victoria, daughter of the Duke of Connaught. The Crown Princess died May 1, 1920. There are four sons and one daughter by this union. He is a great-great-grandson of Marshal Bernadotte, Prince of Ponte Corvo, founder .of the present dynasty, who was one of Napoleon's marshals.
The announcement of the engagement coming at a time when the Swedish fleet is visiting British waters naturally excites rumors of Anglo-Swedish understandings. In well-informed circles the match is regarded as non-diplomatic.
