: Foreign News
The following books, economically, politically, historically or biographically related to Foreign News, have recenty been published in the U. S.:
A GALLERYPhilip GuedallaPutnam ($2.50). Wherein the scintillating mind of ex-barrister Guedalla coruscates with a delightful medley of bans mots upon contemporary litterateurs, British politicians and Liberals, Mr. Compton MacKenzie and a few shadows. Each book that Mr. Guedalla writes is better than his last. Eventually he will become a historian of note.
THE PRIME MINISTERS OF BRITAIN, 1721-1924The Hon. Clive Bingham Button ($5.00). A detailed biographical outline of the 39 Prime Ministers who have held office from the accession of George I into the reign of George V, starting with Walpole, ending with MacDonald. The present Prime Minister, Stanley Baldwin, is also included, as he is now enjoying his second term of office. Adequately and excellently but not brilliantly written.
MEMORIES OF THE FOREIGN LEGION M. M.Introduction by D. H. Lawrence Knopf ($2.50). A brilliant, engrossing, vivid story of M. M.'s life in the French Foreign Legion during the War. A book that should not be omitted by young or old.
TIBET, PAST AND PRESENT Sir Charles BellOxford University Press ($8.00). An authoritative and dignified account of the far past and near past history of the mysterious land of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, to whom the book is dedicated.
THE FUGGER NEWS LETTERSEdited by Victor von Klarwill, Translated by Pauline de CharyPutnam ($6.00). An exceptionally interesting collection of despatches received in the 16th Century by the merchant-banking House of Fuggerto whom half the crowns of Europe seemed to have been pawned from its world-flung correspondents.
SUN YAT SEN AND THE CHINESE REPUBLICPaul LinebargerCentury ($4.00). A sloppy, sentimental, enthusiastic and uncritical biography of Sun Yatsen. The redeeming feature of the book lies in its many discursions into Chinese life and customs.
