EGYPT: Punished
At Cairo seven men were led onto a platform. One by one a trap door opened beneath their feet, and they went dangling into eternity. They were the men convicted of the murder of the British sirdar, Sir Lee Stack (TIME, Dec. 1, 1924). Six of the men, all youths, went bravely to their doom. The seventh an older man, able lawyer, brains of the conspiracy, struggled and wept. An eighth man, convicted, had his sentence commuted at the last minute because he had confessed promptly after his capture and had facilitated the capture of the others.
