Foreign News: Cardinal Greets Mayor

Mussolini continues to strengthen the cordial relations existing between the State and the Vatican. Filippo Cremonesi, a Royal Commissioner, who was appointed as acting Mayor of Rome when the Mayor and Aldermen resigned three weeks ago, made an official visit to the Cardinal Vicar of Rome, Cardinal Pompili. The call was returned by Cardinal Pompili, who as Vicar of Rome administers the diocese in the name of its Bishop—the Pope. This exchange of visits is the first that has taken place since 1887, when Prince Torlonia, then Mayor of Rome, made a similar visit to the Cardinal Vicar of that time. This visit, however, cost Torlonia his public office; for the Government demanded his resignation.
