On April 23, 1823, there was incorporated the "President, Managers & Company of the Delaware & Hudson Canal Co." which five years later completed a canal from the Pennsylvania coal fields to the Hudson River, later became an operator of mines, steamships, street cars, hotels. Although the name was simplified to the Delaware & Hudson Co. in 1899, the old form is still effective— D. & H. has no directors, but a Board of Managers over which reigns Leonor Fresnel Loree.
