Animals: Sick Goliath

Goliath II, his goggle-eyes listless, moped last week in Sarasota, Fla., heaved despondently his two tons of blubber. All through the winter quarters of Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus echoed his dismal, puffing wheezes, for the famed sea elephant lay ill of an unknown ailment—perhaps pneumonia. Circus officials were gloomy. A prime feature of the circus, which opens in Manhattan this week, is Goliath II, wambling fatly on his motor truck, trumpeting for herring.
