RACES: Justice
In Wilmington, N.C. last week Francis Yonge Legare Jr. (pronounced Leegree), 21, was sentenced to 20 to 25 years in prison for killing a druggist named Mason during an attempted holdup. So extraordinary was this sentence that the judge felt obliged to comment on his own impartiality. Killer Legare is not only white but a member of a famed old Charleston, S. C. family. Druggist Mason was a Negro.
