Homer Martin's feelings toward William Green last week boxed the compass. In 1935, when Mr. Martin's United Automobile Workers of America was an A. F. of L. stepchild, he referred with passionate sympathy to the "trials and tribulations" overcome by Mr. Green. In 1937, a year after the automobile union had gone into C.I.O., Homer Martin called William Green a "Judas Iscariot" for trying to upset his negotiations with General Motors.

Driven out of C.I.O. and supported by only a small fraction of U.A.W., Mr. Martin last week took his tribulations to Washington, and was all but embraced by his one-time Judas (see cut). Said William Green: "The A. F. of L. recognizes the union headed by Mr. Martin. . . . Many of those who were beguiled [into C.I.O.] have become thoroughly disillusioned. To them we say: 'Come back. . . . Let bygones be bygones.' "
