A beer bottle flying by night through the window of a bawdy house, a volley of answering pistol shots flying out of the house, were the projectiles, fired last February, which last fortnight blew the lid off the city government of Champaign, Ill. Indicted for the murder of Sophomore William Spurrier of the University of Illinois was Mrs. Margaret Strothers, Negro proprietress of the bawdy house. Indicted for intentional dereliction of duty in not suppressing vice were Champaign's Mayor James D. Flynn, Chief of Police Roy Argo, State's Attorney Fred B. Hamill, former Sheriff Clarence W. Roth and four city commissioners.

Mayor Flynn's attitude used to be: "Prostitution will continue to exist in some form. It is far better for the community if prostitutes are known, regulated and examined."

Last week, still waiting to stand trial, Mayor Flynn and the city commissioners stood for reelection. All but one commissioner won.
