CROPS: Strike Settled

Last week peace came to New York City's embattled milk shed after a nine-day war that had halved the city's daily 4,000,000-quart milk supply. It was brought by astute, little Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia who negotiated the settlement. Its results:

For farmers a "blended price" of $2.15 per cwt. (46½ quarts) for the nine classes of milk they sell to distributors, an indicated increase of 65¢ a cwt. from the July blended price. Top price in this "blend" is Class I (bottled milk) at $2.60 a cwt., a rise of 35¢.

For consumers, Grade B milk delivered to the door in New York City at 14¼¢ instead of 13½¢ a quart—the highest price in eight years.
