CENSUS: Stalemate

In 1920 there were 2,000,000 more males than females in the U.S. Last week the.Census Bureau reported that in 1940 the male preponderance had dwindled to a mere 450,000.

Every year in the last two decades, the Bureau said, 100,000 U.S. women had lost their chances to marry. The Bureau's impartial prediction: by 1945 the battle of the sexes will be a stalemate.
